Mike Canady joins Stanford GSB as CFO and Chief Operating Officer
Stanford Graduate School of Business (Stanford GSB) has announced the appointment of Mike Canady as Chief Operating and Financial Officer (COFO). With more than 30 years of experience in finance and operations, the former Charles Schwab executive will oversee the school’s financial strategy and day-to-day operations.
In this role, Mike Canady will lead all financial activities at Stanford GSB while enhancing operational efficiency. “This role builds on my experience in finance, operations, and investment. I’m a lifelong learner and excited to continue growing while supporting Stanford GSB and the broader university,” he said.
A strong background in finance and investment
Before joining Stanford, Mike Canady spent the majority of his career at Charles Schwab, where he earned a reputation as a forward-thinking and innovative leader. He held several key positions, including chief of staff to founder Charles Schwab, head of international operations, and played a central role in launching the company’s venture capital arm.
His passion for financial markets began early. He served on a student investment committee at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned his BA, before completing an MBA at NYU Stern School of Business. A long-time active investor, he now aims to bring this expertise to Stanford GSB’s investment initiatives.
A collaborative leader aligned with Stanford GSB’s mission
Sarah A. Soule, Dean of Stanford Graduate School of Business, highlighted his leadership qualities: “Mike is widely recognized as a collaborative and service-oriented leader who builds trust, listens carefully, and brings people together to solve complex challenges. We are delighted to welcome him to our community.”
Mike Canady also emphasized his alignment with the institution’s values: “I was fortunate to work at a mission-driven company like Charles Schwab, where clients were at the center of every decision. Stanford GSB’s mission to develop innovative, principled, and insightful leaders who change the world strongly resonates with me. I’m excited to be part of it.”
