Knowledge about communication has readjusted sciences, professional practices and, in a broader sense, social changes during the last sixty years. Specifically, the last forty years have revalued the information usage in most of the processes of production and reproduction of societies. These last forty years have brought to the fore the role of interpersonal communications in the functioning of primary organizations; the role institutional communications in companies and organisms that work often with tools or products such as information or social communications. In addition, those institutions who work at the level of global societies recur to the theory and research of social production of communication for two kinds of applications: 1) in globalised contexts, in which communication is a component of the organization and of systems’ functioning; and 2) in social conflicts that imply usage of communication (which are most of the conflicts) to foresee, avoid o attenuate its effects.
The demand of necessary skills to operate inside these spheres has become much more generalised, as well as more diversified and complex.
